North East Vision for a Long Term Future

The Sustainable Farming and Food Strategy (SFFS) in the North East is a long term vision aimed at putting the farming and food industry on the same footing as all other major industries.  Focused on the food chain and land management SFFS influences and encourages the  North East to work collaboratively, be skill rich and enterprising in order to create a stable, profitable, vibrant and diverse rural community which enhances our countryside and wider environment.

In July 2006 Defra produced its Forward Look Strategy.

Defra are currently in the process of 'Strategy Refresh'.  This covers not just the farming sector but Defra's work across the board.  A review of regional priorities will be undertaken in light of the findings.

From the beginning of October 2006, English Nature, the environment activities of the rural Development Service and the Countryside Agency's landscape, access and recreation division will be united in a single body called Natural England
